I am extremely pleased with it combined his bench and shoe rack we built the place in the hall. We had plenty closet rod of space and built it therefore added depth, so we get we place dual skorader in depth. In addition to shoes, there is room for your laptop bag, sleeping mat for a picnic, bike helmets, storage baskets closet rod and more. Very flexible in other words.
During one countertop so we skipped the shelves and instead made room for tall boxes which can fit with a cardboard bag (regular size) for the recycling of newspapers and cardboard. Incidentally, also a very good hiding behind the boxes when children play hide and seek:-).
On one countertop to the left fits keys, letters stand for incoming mail, and today's newspaper. In other countertop we place to recharge cell phones and ipads. In between there is a seating area for two people closet rod with a comfortable, washable cushion.
IKEA has a model called NIFTY which has similar design with dimensions W * H = 108 * 50 cm, 599 kr. It is not as deep, but you can use two if you want a deeper model. For us it did not measure, so it was better to place build to maximize storage in the hallway.
First made a simple scale drawing to see where the shelves and countertop would sit. I chose to have a distance between the vertical studs which was 69 cm to fit with three pairs of shoes and 48 cm on the narrower part to fit with two pairs in the width of a little higher shoes. A total of 32 pairs adult shoes. The vacuum cleaner enters underneath. closet rod
You have to think for a bit if you want to get as high shelves. If shelves must be at different heights on the left and right so it must distinguish at least 45 mm in height, so that "the ledger" fit. The countertop is so stable closet rod that it does not need the support of the front or the back, which would otherwise have taken away precious inches in height. I have 16,5 cm space for shoes at the low end. The shelves should not sit closer in height, because you get less than a pair of shoes place. Please have a section with higher altitude, so shoes and boots fit.
2 Make a simple template to see the holes for the metal is distributed closet rod evenly. We had about 6-7 cm between the bars, which will be 9 pieces per shelf. You have to think a little. Two holes ports on the front and rear standing rule, the rest of the holes shall be apportioned between the ledger.
4 Bought 8 pieces packaging of shelf GRUNDTAL at IKEA. Absolute cheapest way of getting your hands on stainless rods. Type a quarter of the price for buying the metal bars at a DIY store. We used 9 piece metal bars per shelf.
11a. Now comes the fun part - Putting together all the parts. We worked from left to right. Be diligent with the spirit level! We assembled all the studs that would be stuck in the wall to the left.
11e. Continued in the same way ... As we had shelves in the last section, so it was easy to get to location. Would there have been shelves need to come up with a gimmick to succeed in getting the metal bars between the joists.
13 Cut to the worktops. Hissed the edge that made a straight cut so that it had the same curvature as the front edge. Keep in mind that my part should stick out a bit underneath the second disc for support underneath. On my part it must also cut out of the corners.
